Fieldtrip to The Hamburger Farm

Last week Zach and Kali's preschool classes took a field trip to Bishop's "Hamburger Farm". They learned all about where the food that is on our hamburger comes from and how it is grown or made. The kids got to enjoy the petting zoo, a train ride, the hamburger farm tour, a yummy hamburger lunch and then some playtime. They had a really great time and I was so impressed with how much they enjoyed learning about the garden and where so much of our food comes from. Maybe we need to start a garden of our own sometime soon!!
Zach and his buddy Bryant.
Ummm...yeah we didn't touch the pigs. I'm not sure who WOULD want to pet them! It was pretty interesting to see the mother sow and her LOTS of babies.
Zach loved feeding the goats and of course Kali enjoyed watching them from outside the fence...she was Miss Jeannie's little shadow most of the time. They both love Miss Jeannie so much.

Learning about wheat and then getting to grind our very own wheat. The kids loved this part!

Cucumbers...become the pickles on our hamburgers.
Lettuce.
Tomatoes...fruit or veggie?? They are actually a fruit if you didn't know.
Smelling the onion. MMMMmmmm.
Which cow is for milk and which one is for our hamburger?!! The Black and white one or the brown one? She actually didn't even talk about where the meat comes from. Interesting.
Milking the "cow". It was a fake wooden cow with a bucket and fake utters.

Digging for potatoes. They LOVED this part. I was amazed at how well she had all the kids attention.

Throwing their potato "fries" in the compost pile.
Honey Bees! Not really sure what this had to do with the "hamburger farm" part but it was pretty interesting and the kids were in awe of how many bees were inside that thing!

Train ride in the "cattle car". I thought it was funny how they all picked this car over all the others with actual seats. After the train ride back we enjoyed our hamburger lunch. I think my kids played with their hamburgers more than they ate them. (They are chicken nugget eaters.)

Fun slide! What a great way to end the fun field trip! The kids had a blast!

what a fun day. I wish we had farms like that here. Yeah I think we should probably leave the slaughtering-the-cow part out and forget about where the beef actually comes from. You might end up with a class full of traumitized vegitarians. Hahah.

Wow, I didn't even know they did that out at Bishop's. Can I just take my kids myself or do they only do field trips? Love the way you documented the trip. Looks like the kids had a great time and I totally agree with Kelli on the cow part, haha!!

What a fun day we all had! You got some great pictures of all the kids. I love where they are all in the cattle car together. We are going to miss Jeanie's class, but are keeping our fingers crossed that the boys get into the same class in kindergarten.
