Our little friend...

the baby hummingbird. The other day Mark was about to mow the lawn and Kali spotted this little bird in the grass. Mark scooped it up in a box and set it on the ground out of the way. A little while later I noticed a hummingbird flying around the box and figured out that it must have been the baby bird's mother. How cool is that?! How often do you see Hummingbird's just buzzing around your bushes? Well, so I gently tipped the baby bird out of the box just so the mother could get to it and we stood back and watched. The mother bird kept coming back and feeding the the baby and checking on it all day. The baby wouldn't move much and I'm assuming it just wasn't ready to fly yet. We came back later that night and couldn't see the bird anywhere until a day later I noticed the mother hummingbird flying around our bushes again. Low and behold the baby had made its way into the bushes and onto a top branch and he was just sitting there and started to flap its wings a bit. The kids just loved watching this little baby bird and they were so fascinated by everything it was doing. I think one of the kids may have startled it a bit because all of a sudden it flapped its little wings and flew up the the tree in our front yard... and there it sat for another day! SERIOUSLY, this all started on Monday and that little bird is still hanging out in our front yard just trying to get the guts up to fly away! It is so cute and has been so much fun watching these past few days. What a neat little experience the kids have had. Everytime we leave or come home the kids have been checking on our little friends just sitting in our tree.
